Wil Dunn was born and raised in Lanett, Alabama. He is the youngest son of Ross and Rosa Dunn. His parents raised him in a Methodist religion household. He was in Sunday School every Sunday morning and whenever the doors of the church were open, he was there. His father was a trustee for the church and his mother was in the choir and a Sunday School teacher. He was marked from birth that he would be in the ministry for the Lord but never realized until he got older that it would be in music. One of his favorite pastors of his life was at Hall Memorial CME Church in Fairfax, Alabama. Hall Memorial CME Church is the church that he grew up in. The pastor's name was Rev. Edwards. Rev. Edwards always told Wil's mother, "That boy is going to be a preacher!" Wil played the piano in church and taught Sunday School. When he left high school and went to college, he began singing in a few groups. One group was the Collegiate Baptist Student Union at Alabama State University in Montgomery. And the other was a professional music fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. They sang all types of songs from gospel to secular music.. During all of this time, he was blessed to be able to watch God work in the life of his sister, Dr. Rosephanye T. Dunn-Powell. She has the gift of singing, playing the piano, composing and conducting music. Both she and her husband has become top notch musicians. They write songs for different events and are currently professors of music at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama.
As Wil got older, he saw God take his life in a different direction. Wil realized that he was not attracted to women. He hated dating them but did it anyway because he thought that was what dating was supposed to be about. He was miserable. In 1995, he moved to Little Rock, Arkansas and thought that he could live a straight non-gay life because he was not around his friends in Alabama. That idea lived for a couple of years and he was back to where he started...miserable and disgusted with God. He felt he didn't know who he was and God didn't love him becuase he didn't take those feelings aways. But you know what, God allows you to go through things to actually see who He is. One day in August of 1997, he was troubled and was praying to God because he continued to have feelings of attraction to men. God showed Wil His unconditional love for him through His Word and all Wil had do was be that WHOSOEVER BELIEVER! And that time he actually believed it. God began closing and locking doors that Wil didn't need and began opening doors that he needed. On September 15, 1997, He met the love of his life Jim Lambert. They fell in love and married on September 14, 2002.Wil has also found a loving church family, Open Door Community Church in Sherwood, Arkansas in 2001. Now, He wants to share with the world the love that God has shown him.
